French, Deannie. Netscape, Internet and Long-Term Care.

This is an internet-based "correspondence" course that will provide skills for anyone interested in health and long-term care issues as related to emerging communication technologies. It is from the School of Health Professions at Southwest Texas University. The course is expected to be offered for the first time during October-December, 1996 and is expected to be offered fairly frequently after that. It is limited to 10 students. A web site with general informatics information and an outline of an elective course for 4th year medical students.

Although this book only covers the Internet and not computers in general, it's worth recommending! It is not only an explanation of the Internet and a list of resources. No, it's scope is a little wider. Examples of chapter titles: "The Internet and Medicine", "Medicine in the 21st century", "Ethics, Security an Confidentiality".

Part of the Springer-Verlag series on Computers in Health Care. Dr. Weed is the creator of the problem oriented medical record, the concept of "SOAP" notes, and he is the author of "Records that Teach." Knowledge Coupling explains the concepts and techniques used in the computer-based system he developed to aid and enhance diagnostic decision making.
