OMERAD Fellowship Overview
- Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine offers a Primary
Care Faculty Development Fellowship. The goal of the program is to prepare
new physician faculty for careers in primary care academic medicine. The
fellowship provides training in teaching, research, administration, written
communication and professional academic skills. Since 1979, over 270 physicians
have completed the MSU faculty development fellowship.
- The fellows are general internists, family practitioners and general
pediatricians from medical schools and primary care residencies throughout
the U.S.
-
- Each year from September through June, the fellows spend five weeks
at MSU participating in workshops, seminars, small group activities, and
practice teaching assignments. At their home institutions, they complete
assignments and a major project. With the assistance of MSU faculty members
and a peer mentor group, fellows design and implement a curricular development
or research project, which they present at the the Primary Care Research
and Development Conference in June.
-
- The Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship Program is supported
by grants from the Division of Medicine, Public Health Service. This program
is also supported by the Departments of Medicine, Pediatrics and Human
Development, Family Practice, the Office of Medical Education Research
and Development, and the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.
