Help With this Site & the Internet
NOTE: For explanations of the terms we use in this Help section (and
of many other internet/web terms), click on the Internet Glossary link,
at the bottom of this page. (Use your scroll bar, on the right, or the "page
down" key on your keyboard, to get there. You can also access the Internet
Glossary from the Main Menu, on the Home Page.)

Congratulations!
- By getting here, you have just shown that you already know most of
what you need to know to visit this or any other Web Site. You clicked on
"HELP" to jump to this message. In doing so, you used a "Link,"
which is the key to navigating the Web.

Links:
- On all pages, look for colored text (typically, blue and underlined).
This indicates the presence of a "Link," such as the one you clicked
on to get to this page. A Link is a quick way to connect to the information
or area indicated. (Graphics that are outlined in a color (typically, blue),
like the "return" image below, also work as Links.)
- NOTE: After you use a Link, it will usually change color (typically
to red), reminding you where you've been. (The specific way our site appears
on your screen depends on your computer and on which "browser"
(Web access program) you are using to visit this site. Our explanations
here apply to the most commonly used browsers, as they function when used
with a color monitor. Many browsers permit you to modify the way they behave,
so you can, for example, turn off the underlining of links, and customize
their color.

Navigation Tip:
- In addition to the Links that are presented within some paragraphs,
and at the bottom of all pages at this site, we have an additional aid to
navigating this Web site. There is a horizontal line ("navigation
bar") near the top and at the bottom of each page within this site.
On this page the navigation bar is below the title, "HELP," and
at the very bottom of the page. Clicking on a word on that line takes you
to the page indicated. (Many of those main pages will then present additional
links.) Below the navigation bar on most pages there is an addition link
(Send Feedback & Contributions) to
make it easy for you to contribute to the evolution of this site. (Notice
that the Link to "Feedback" in the prior sentance is "hot."
You could click on it to get to our "Contributions" page.) See
"Feedback," below, for more.

Browser-based navigation:
- In most Web browsers there are left and right arrows at the top of
the page. If you have such arrows, clicking on them will take you backward
or forward, one page at a time, among those pages you have already visited
during a Web access session ... regardless of the site at which those pages
are located. The Links within our site enable you to jump to wherever the
requested information happens to be ... even if it is in another country
(as you will find when you visit our "Other Sites" page ... which
you access from the main menu on our Home Page).
NOTE: the "Other Sites" link is not included in our
navigation bar. It is available only from the Main Menu, on our Home Page.
There is a link at the bottom of all our pages, and in all our navigation
bars, that can take you back to the Home Page.

Save this site's "Bookmark":
- If you find our site helpful and think you may want to come back in
the future, you can make doing so easier by saving the address (URL) that
got you here this time. Netscape Navigator, and some other "browsers"
refer to saved URLs as "Bookmarks." Microsoft's Internet Explorer
refers to them as "Favorites." Whatever browser you use, there
should be a system for easily saving your preferred web sites, so that you
can find them easily again at another time. It is best to invoke the "Save
Bookmark" function, or its equivalent, while you are viewing the Home
Page of the site you want to revisit (or you will be saving the URL for
a location within that site, from which navigating the site will not be
as easy). So, in our case, if you have not already added our URL to you
Bookmark List (or list of Favorites, or whatever), we suggest doing so as
soon as you return to our Home Page (right after finishing with this Help
page.) When at our Home Page, just pull down your "Bookmarks"
or "Favorites" (or equivalent) menu and select the "Save
this Book mark" function (or your browser's equivalent of that command).

The
Net: User Guidelines and "Netiquette"
- The heading above is a "Link" to a resource on the World
Wide Web, covering the proper uses of the World Wide Web iself, as well
as email, telnet, FTP, and USENET (Newsgroups). For each topic, basic user
information is given, along with links to more detailed instructions and
guidelines. There's also a question and answer section providing detailed
responses to actual user questions. And there's even a bibliography if you
want more information.
- NOTES:
- 1. If you click on the header (link) above, you will be taken to
another place (site) on the Web. To get back to our site, remember to click
on the left-facing (return) arrow above, in the header of your browser.
- 2. If you want an explanation of any of the terms used above, click
on the "Glossary" Link, next.

Internet Glossary:
Click on the link for definitions of common internet and world wide web
terms and concepts.

Feedback:
- We are eager for your feedback. We want this site to be easy to use
and genuinely helpful. We need your guidance to ensure that it evolves optimally.
Please give us the benefit of your reactions and suggestions. Our Contributions
page is not available from the navigation bar. You can get to it by clicking
on the word (link) "Feedback," above, or from the "Contribute
to this site" link in the main menu on our Home Page.
Also, on most pages, just below the Navigation Bar, there is the following
link (Send Feedback & Contributions),
which you can use to send us your reactions and suggestions.
- Thanks.

If necessary, widen your viewing window:
- Your browser may present you with a viewing window that needs to be
widened. Use the mouse pointer to drag the box in the lower right corner
of your viewing window so that the window is at least a little wider than
the multi-colored divider bar below. All windows for this site are best
viewed at that width or wider.
