Guidelines for Operations of CANDO (previously CCNWFD)
The structure formed includes the Executive Committee and Five (5) Regional Task Forces.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee includes seven (7) nursing community leaders that represent the state in guiding and directing the actions of the staff and overseeing the implementation of recommendations from the regional task forces of CANDO.
- Nominations for Executive Committee members would be from Regional Task Force participants.
- Annual selection would alternate : 3 leaders for a 1 year term and 4 more leaders for 2 year term.( for 1999-2000) Then all would be selected for two year term.
- Nominations would be accepted in the Spring by June 1, and selection by existing committee announced by July 1.
- Of the 7 Members, three shall be designated
and four "at large" members with:
- One (1) designated by the Colorado Society of Nurse Executives,
- One (1) designated by the Colorado Council of Nurse Educators, and
- One (1) designated by the Area Health Education Centers.
Roles and Responsibilities of the Executive Committee Members:
- Participates in monthly meeting, including phone conference option.
- Evaluates and updates, the goals and activities for ongoing evolution of the work of this group, with completion of each annual report.
- Provides guidance/direction and leadership for advancing Nursing in Colorado, collaboratively with the Project Director and staff.
- Fosters commitment to building/maintaining partnerships for unified voice of Colorado Nursing Community to speak at table in creating a new Health Care system.
- Receives, analyze, and summarize the five regional task force quarterly reports (due 11/10/99, 2/10/00, 5/10/00, 8/10/00, etc.) and recommend action.
- Report significant information through the newsletter and other communication lines.
- Accountable for outcomes with project staff to RWJ Foundation and Colorado Community Contributors.
- Bring resources to table or assist in developing resources for Coalition work.
- Role model and encourage in task force members serious inquiry about key issues, communication that is not representative or party line, to generate innovative action items.

Regional Task Forces:
The Regional Task Forces are local/regional work groups that meet as required to accomplish their activities, but no less than quarterly. Organization of these 5 regional Task Forces utilizes the infrastructure of the five Colorado Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and same geographical regions of the state: Centennial, Central, South East, San Luis Valley, and Western.
The Purpose of the Task Forces are to, in collaboration with all organizations with common interest, to identify, implement, and disseminate nursing recruitment and retention strategies for education and service.
The Goals include:
- Increase Health Care Career Interest
- Increase Public Knowledge and Value of the Role of Nursing
- Identify new role potentials and paths of nurses.
- Implement in service and integrate in curriculum of setting specific competencies.
Regional Task Force Members Role/Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for advancing nursing in Colorado and developing new partnerships in completing the four key goals/outcomes, with plan of action/ region and timelines including a Quarterly Report submitted to the Executive Committee. (11/10/99, 2/10/2000,5/10/2000,8/10/2000, etc.)
- Offer expertise to be utilized within the groups.
- Bring resources to table ( time, $, materials, opportunities, contacts, etc.)
- Linkages with current and new groups and organizations that have a common interest to be brought in or brought forward through the regional task force members, executive committee members, and staff. Ongoing communication and information flow from and to these groups would be supported by Communicator, web-page, email or most appropriate means of communication.
- Participate in each annual event, presenting their outcomes and sharing learning.
- Establish subgroups for smaller work groups, as needed to accomplish the work of the group.
- Nominate executive committee members by June 1 deadline.
Annual Statewide Forum:
This forum will be a statewide "think tank" opportunity and includes as broad a group of stakeholder's as possible to push the agenda or policy issues forward in the state.
