PROPOSED COURSE OBJECTIVES

Course Objective: Skill Sets
1. Demonstrate knowledge of Medicare conditions of participation and effective documentation for Medicare reimbursement Regulatory Issues - Documentation
Identify regulatory requirements as stipulated by the Balanced Budged Act for Medicare homecare. Regulatory Issues – Legal Issues
Identify key elements of broad based nursing assessment for the home care client and demonstrate effective assessment skills:
  • functional assessment of ADLs and IADLs
  • home environment/safety assessment
  • Socio-cultural assessment
  • family/support systems assessment
  • community support systems assessment
  • assessment of knowledge deficits
  • assessment of equipment and supply needs
  • assessment of mental health and coping abilities
  • medication assessment
  • polypharmacy assessment
  • assessment of pain management
Broad-based Health Assessment Skills Physical Assessment Environment and Home Safety Assessing Family/Primary Caregiver Pharmacology in the Home Pain Management
2. Demonstrate effective analysis and prioritization of the data gathered in the broad-based health assessment and plan for effective intervention. Problem-Solving Critical Thinking
Demonstrate ability to intervene effectively in the home setting. Intervention Skills
Demonstrate proficiency in care management and case management. Planning Frequency/Duration of Visits
Coordinate and communicate care issues among the interdisciplinary team. Working with the Interdisciplinary Team
Identify and assess appropriately and consistently community resources to assist in the home management of the patient. Assessing Community Resources
