Subject: CNA issues

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Health Facilities Division is joining with the Colorado Board of Nursing and various health care industry representatives to review/discuss numerous issues addressing the scope of professional activities for CNAs. The goal of this initiative is to develop guidelines for providers in dealing with CNA - related issues.

Among areas the committee is planning to address are:
1. Nurse Aide Training
2. Evaluation of Competency and the documentation required
3. Competency vs. Certification-4 mo rule
4. Comparison of CNA/Skilled Tasks and Personal Care Provider/PCP/ Non-Skilled Tasks
5. In-service education requirements
6. Nursing delegation and Supervision of Nursing Delegated Tasks
7. Providers restricted from CNA Training
8. Background investigation/criteria which would disqualify someone from being able to work as a CNA
9. Feeding Assistants

Representatives from the Health Facilities Division, Colorado Board of Nursing, Hospice Agencies, Long Term Care Facilities, Home Health Agencies, Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, State Medicaid Office, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services-Denver Regional Office, and a CNA Trainer/Instructor from the Colorado Health Care Association are participating in this endeavor.
