REGISTERED NURSES IN COLORADO: 1997 Overview

Nursing manpower tracking is a collaborative effort among the Colorado Board of Nursing, the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (Colorado AHEC Program), and the Colorado Health Professions Panel. These tables are extracted from a report about 1997 registered nurses licensed in Colorado.

The Colorado Board of Nursing re-licenses half of licensed registered nurses each year. Of 17,986 registered nurses re-licensing in 1997, 13,177 (73%) returned the manpower survey included with re-licensure materials. The 13,177 respondents could be classified on the basis of work and residency status as follows:

Work location for RN's with Colorado Licenses
Category Number and percent of Respondents
Work in Colorado (may not live in Colorado) 9,232 (70%)
Live in Colorado and probably work there  729 ( 6%)
Live in Colorado and do not work in nursing  1,001 ( 8%)
Live and/or work outside Colorado 2,099 (16%)
Unknown work and residency status  116 ( 1%)
