Housestaff Association of the University of Colorado Hospitals
The Organization Which Represents You, the Houseofficer
What's New
Just want to remind all of you! The power of the Association is in its membership. Your membership support and participation is critical to our ability to successfully represent you. Our collective voice provides housestaff credibility to address issues. The raise you will receive in July is a direct result of your Housestaff Association representation. In July Chief Residents will be asked to have housestaff elect their new Exec Committee representatives for the coming year. Let your Chief Resident know if you are interested in representing your peers on the committee which meets monthly.
HOUSESTAFF ASSOCIATION ANNUAL SURVEY - In May you will receive our survey which will be on-line this year. Please take a few minutes to give us your candid feedback. Answers are confidential; cumulative results will be used to address concerns. Your opinion matters! Look for your e-mail in May.
FITZSIMONS PARKING - There are major complaints coming from residents and faculty concerning the lack of parking space at Fitzsimons. Finding parking is resulting in clinic delays for patients waiting to be seen. Taking shuttles to and from remote lots is encroaching on time as well. The Housestaff Association and GME have communicated concerns and dialogue continues with University of Colorado Hospital. Unfortunately, there is no immediate solution in sight.
DHMC Physician Order Entry - Complaints regarding the system and the time element in placing orders continues. The Exec Committee will update DHMC during our monthly meeting in April.
SPOUSES & SIGNIFICANT OTHERS - The Resident Physician Spouse (RPS) Alliance is up and running thanks to AnaGloria Rodriguez-Wilkinson. In cooperation with the Housestaff Association, the RPS and the Medical Student (ABC) group organized two presentations "The Medical Marriage and Family Health" in February. The support/social group is available to the spouses and significant others who are interested. The group is associated with the Metro Denver Medical Societies Alliance. For information interested parties should contact: AnaGloria Rodriguez-Wilkinson, M.A. at anagloriar@aol.com or call 303-671-2229. A combined social event is being planned for new and continuing housestaff. Further information will be forthcoming.
Up-To-Date - The Housestaff Association requested and received support from the GME Committee for a proposal to reinstate remote access to Up-To-Date. Many houseofficers reported it is a valued and well-used resource for patient care, teaching and learning. This request has been forwarded upward. We will keep you apprised of the response.
