The bulletin board icon allows
you to read messages,
post messages, participate in a threaded discussion,
send attachments, and post
hotlinked web sites for the entire class or your individual forum
groups to see. The navigation tool bar
has many functions for managing your messages.

The private mail icon allows you
to send mail and read
mail to/from individuals in the course. Additionally, you can organize
your mail using folders. The mailbox functions
are similar to the bulletin board functions - again use the navigation
tool bar to send attachments and post
hotlinked web sites to your mail.

The contents icon gives you access
to course units including lecture materials, online activities, links
to other web sites, etc.

The information icon gives you
access to the course syllabus and other important facts about your instructor,
required texts, assignments, etc.

The chat icon allows you to enter
the course chat rooms, where you can have an
online discussion with other course participants in real time - it is
really like holding a virtual meeting
which is effective for decision-making discussions that need to be done
as a group.

The references icon gives you
access to online magazine articles, book chapters and links to outside
sites on the web.
