Model Colorado AHEC - October 2003
What's new
It is a good day.
We want your feedback - Please use our message board to give us feedback on the courses you would like to see us offer and/or your experiences in participating in our classes. We would like to hear from you and use your comments to make our classes better or offer classes that would be of more use to you, our customers. The message board is un-moderated (I almost said without moderation but thought better) and participants can use pseudonyms (and pseudo e-mail addresses) if they feel the need.
Model AHEC Message Board
I found a nice little tutorial for building an on-line message board the other day at www.webthang.co.uk. This site has some worthwhile tutorials on using Dreamweaver to tie a database to your site. I took their tutorial and stripped out the presentation stuff (font tags and other assorted riff-raff) put that into a stylesheet and was left with five include files. There is also one table and two queries in an Access database. The include files can be wrapped in the content area of your main page and the table/queries added to an existing database. It was done using ASP (generated from Dreamweaver).
After doing the above I was able to add the message board (and customize the stylesheet) for a couple of Website's in about half an hour.
To visit our message board use the link on the navigation bar to the left or follow this trail.
All that said, UCD IS has a message board available to all departments so why use this one. No reason really except that you can make it internal to your site and keep track of messages within the database.
I also am working on a realtime chat tool that might launch a little later this week.
If anyone is interested in the files and database for message board just e-mail joe.huggins@uchsc.edu.
CSS Class Resources
After completing the first CSS class, I have added some things that will help that class and future classes. The first is a link to a great (x)html validator that will help you find and solve problems in your pages called CSE HTML Validator. It can be found at http://www.htmlvalidator.com.
Also, I said I would make available the list of my CSS bookmarks. I have zipped them up and they can be downloaded and then imported into your favorite browser. Hope they add some value to your work.

Conference Registration and Abstract Submission Example
The zipped file contained in this link shows an example of some pages we have used to build a site for authors to submit their abstract on-line. The graphics were not included nor was the database. The code was developed using DreamWeaver MX.
