The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC),
mandated by the Health Research Extension Act (HREA) of 1985
and the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), is responsible for the oversight
and evaluation of the Institution's animal care and use program,
procedures and facilities, ensuring that they are consistent
with the recommendations in the Guide for the Care and Use
of Laboratory Animals, Animal Welfare Regulations and PHS
Policy.
The IACUC is an Institutional level committee, the direct
representative of the Chancellor of the University of Colorado Denver and comprises
veterinarian, scientist and non-scientist members, as
well as at least one member who represents the general
community interests in the proper care and treatment
of animals, and, is not affiliated in any way with the
Institution other than as a member of the Committee.
