ARTS: a smoke free community

1971
Began as an outpatient inner city narcotic treatment program as part of the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.
1975
Initiates substance abuse and treatment research programs.
1978
Opens PEER I, a residential program for adult addicts.
Opens Colorado's first publicly funded residential treatment program exclusively for women.
Opens Synergy, residential treatment program for adolescents.
1980
Initiates Cocaine Clinic and specialized program for health care professionals.
1983
Begins Family Intervention Program to help prevent crises in drug-related families.
1989
Opens PEER I non-residential treatment program.
1990-1995
ARTS researches causes and treatments for adolescent conduct disorder and substance abuse.
Part of a 5-year NIDA-funded grant.
1992
Opens The Haven, residential program for women and their infants.
Begins Special Connections, outpatient program for pregnant women.
Opens Synergy program for adolescent day treatment.
1993
Consolidates specialized outpatient services for women in Outpatient Women's Treatment Services site.
Starts ARTS Outpatient Special Services clinic for HIV-infected substance abusers.
1996
ARTS co-founds Signal Behavioral Health Network, Inc. with other partners.
Begins Intensive Outpatient Program.
1998
Starts Multisystemic Therapy Project, with Drug Control System Improvement Funds.
1999
Opens Women's Therapeutic Community at Denver Women's Correctional Facility.
2000
ARTS opens Outpatient Therapeutic Community, partially funded through the Drug Control System Improvement Program.
Synergy Aurora Day Tx and OP Services opened.
2001
Opens the Potomac Street Center to serve east Metro area residents.
Consolidates Adult Outpatient Offender services in new CrossPoint program.
2003
Opens Project STAR, CSAT-funded Day Treatment Program for homeless young adults in collaboration with Urban Peak and the City and County of Denver.
ARTS funded by CSAP to develop Integrated HIV and substance abuse prevention program in collaboration with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
2007
