Assistive Technology Program of Colorado

The Colorado Assistive Technology Program was initially funded in 1989 by the National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) and the U.S. Department of Education as Colorado's "Assistive Technology Act" project. Under the Assistive Technology Act of 1998, a new State Plan was developed and is known as the Assistive Technology Program of Colorado.

The purpose of the program is to improve access to and acquisition of assistive technology devices and services for individuals in education, employment, community living, information technology, and telecommunications.

The program coordinates and collaborates with other state agencies and organizations to provide:

  • Assistive technology awareness training
  • Training on the use of technology
  • Ongoing technical assistance

Accomplishments to date include:

  • AT Funding $ources, an online resource that identifies funding options for AT in Colorado.
  • Device demonstration events

The program is governed and advised by the Colorado Assistive Technology Coalition, comprised of assistive technology users and state leaders of organizations that provide assistive technology training, devices and services.
