The biochemical genetics laboratory at University of Colorado Denver
(UCD), which was created in 1968 as part of a federally funded program to improve
diagnosis and treatment of children with inborn errors of metabolism in several western
states, is now within the section of genetics, metabolism and birth defects in the UCD
and Children's Hospital department of pediatrics. It has been directed by
Dr. Stephen Goodman since its opening, and offers tests to detect and monitor treatment
of many disorders of amino acid, organic acid, and fatty acid metabolism.
