Methylmalonic Acid,
Plasma or Serum
Availability: Mon. - Fri., 0800 - 1700
Turnaround Time: 2 - 3 days.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL (at least 1.0 mL preferred).
Specimen Handling: Centrifuge and separate from cells
within 1 hour of drawing. Freeze serum or
plasma.
Interpretive Reference Range: Normal < 105 ng/mL.
Use: Diagnosis and treatment of methylmalonic acidemias.
Methodology: Stable isotope dilution gas chromatography-mass
spectrometry (GC/MS).
