PROTEOMIC Approaches in Medical and Clinical Research

Gel Based Services
|
The field of proteomics encompasses a broad range of disciplines and techniques, from protein identification and characterization using multidimensional liquid chromatography or two-dimensional gel separation approaches and mass spectrometry, to more traditional molecular biology techniques such as immunoprecipitation and Western blotting. Using these methods jointly with bioinformatics techniques enables us to recognize reproducible patterns within a proteome in addition to identifying changes in a single protein. In addition, proteomics can be used for the following: to obtain quantitative information about a protein, to elucidate protein-protein interactions, to identify post-translational modifications, and to identify single amino acid changes.

The power of proteomics lies in the fact that it is, in essence, a combination of techniques that can be used to analyze proteins at literally all levels. This immense diagnostic potential has triggered an extensive search for protein markers and/or profiles that can be used to predict, diagnose and track the progression of disease and that can be used for therapeutic monitoring.
The CNRU Mass Spectrometry Core Facility supports both gel-based and chromatography-based workflows. Follow the links to find more information on how to analyze your samples using our workflows and assays.
