Cardiovascular Interventional Society

Mission Statement:Founded in 1999 by John Carroll, M.D., the Cardiovascular Interventional Society is dedicated to professional education and discussion among interventional and invasive cardiologists in the regions of Colorado and Wyoming. It seeks to provide a format for individual specialists in private practice and academia to meet, exchange professional experience, and discuss clinical topics following formal lectures and case presentations. The goal is to promote individual professional growth and to provide a format to define and discuss common interests in clinical, educational, and research activities.
Summary of Structure and Function of Society:A series of four meetings for the interventional cardiology community are planned for our 7th year of the Society. Each evening meeting will include an internationally recognized expert in an area relevant to clinical practice of interventional cardiology and interesting case presentations from practicing interventional cardiologists. The University of Colorado School of Medicine office of continuing education is the organization providing category 1 credits toward the AMA physician’s recognition award.
The geographic scope of participants will be Colorado and Wyoming. Mailings will be to all known interventional and invasive cardiologists.
The site will be a hotel or other suitable non-UCD facility in the Denver metro area. The role of the UCD is to organize the event. Organization of each meeting will be through the office of John D. Carroll, MD, Chief of Cardiology at the University of Colorado Hospitals in Aurora and Denver. There will be no attendance fee. Each attendee will be responsible for their travel expenses. Dinner and beverages will be provided by the Society for all attendees. Meetings will be in the evening, typically Monday, and last from 6 to 10 PM.
Industry representatives supporting the Society will be invited to attend with a limit of two representatives from each sponsoring group per meeting. No direct marketing of products is allowed during the meeting.
These meetings will form the nucleus of activities for the Cardiovascular Intervention Society. The activities of the group will evolve as the participants decide. The primary function will be meetings with the following specific objectives:
1) Bring to the region the best speakers working on the most important topics that are relevant to our practices.
2) Be a format for us to share our clinical experiences (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and learn from each other in an informal atmosphere.
3) Provide a format to showcase our regions’ cardiovascular practices to prominent interventional cardiologist from around the country.
4) Provide a format for fellows to be introduced to the cardiovascular community in the region.
5) Allow a format for other group efforts that could be in the educational, research, or other arenas.
