Prerequisites

Please note: No exceptions are made for prerequisite coursework.

General Requirements

1. All prerequisite courses must be taken at an accredited college or university.  We accept courses from schools accredited by the Middle States Association (MS), North Central Association (NC), New England Association (NE), North West Association (NW), Southern Association (SA), and Western States Association (WS).  Generally, technical college courses are not acceptable.

2. To be considered for admission, applicants must have an overall and science GPA of at least 2.8 on a scale of 4.0. All prerequisite courses must have a grade of "C" or higher to be accepted.

3. Courses taken on a pass/fail basis, correspondence courses and CLEP credits do not fulfill prerequisites. Advance Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses are not accepted to fulfill the prerequisite course requirements. Community college courses are acceptable to fulfill lower division prerequisites.

4. Prerequisites must be taken in their respective departments. For example physiology must be in the biology or physiology departments.  Other departments such as in the exercise/ PT/ kinesiology or nursing departments generally do not have the depth nor the breadth required.  Science courses must be completed at a US college or university.   If you have a question please e-mail us

1. Baccalaureate Degree

2. GPA and Science GPA 2.8

3. **GRE Exam within 5 years of application
(General GRE-no subject test is required)

4. **Chemistry
8 semester/12 quarter hrs General Chemistry or above with lab

5. **Biology (offered through a biology department)

At least 14 sem/20 qtr hrs of biological science with a minimum of 6s/8q hours upper division credit completed within the last five years of application deadline. Courses must be related to the medical and animal sciences.

Biological science courses must include: 1 semester of system-based physiology and 1 semester of anatomy or one year of combined A&P. Upper division courses are recommended. If upper division, physiology and anatomy may fulfill the upper division requirement.

Courses in human anatomy and physiology are preferred.  Additional recommended courses include biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, and microbiology. 

6. Genetics
3 sem/4 qtr hrs (May not fulfill biological science or upper division biological science hours)

7. Psychology
6 sem/8 qtr hrs

8. Statistics (may be taken in any department)
3 sem/4 qtr hrs

Note: Those marked with ** (# 3,4, and 5) must to be completed prior to application to the program.  The remainder of requirements must be completed prior to matriculation.

† If you are unable to complete physiology or anatomy prior to application but have completed 14 hours of biology including 6 upper division hours, we will allow you to complete anatomy and physiology after application.
