Appointment for the purpose of being a course director:
- The applicant must have the rank of assistant professor or above (with a primary appointment in a CU academic department) and appointment to the HSC graduate faculty.
- The applicant must provide evidence of past or present commitment to graduate-level education. This may take the form of teaching, serving on exam committees, or directly mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
In addition to the above two requirements, individuals who wish to serve as a CLSC program student’s research mentor must meet the following criteria:
- The principal investigator must be engaged in independent research with a history of external funding. In the case of junior faculty or individuals between grants, an exception may be approved if other financial support for the student is identified.
- The PI must offer a hypothesis-driven research environment involved in either clinical investigation or health services research that provides a suitable training experience for the student such that they will be prepared to undertake a career in the field of clinical investigation.
- The number and quality of publications will also be considered.
Application Process
On an as-needed basis, CLSC Ph.D. Program Executive Committee members may recommend individuals who meet these criteria to the CLSC Program Director for consideration. Each CLSC faculty applicant must provide a biosketch in the Graduate School-required format. In addition to educational and academic credentials, it should also include a listing of current and pending funding, training/ teaching experience, research interests, and a list of publications. Additionally, the CLSC faculty applicant must provide evidence of a commitment to graduate/ postgraduate education.
The CLSC Program Director's office will screen the credentials of each CLSC faculty applicant to assure compliance with these requirements. After receipt of all the above information, a meeting between the Program Director and applicant will normally be arranged to ensure that the applicant understands and is committed to the goals of our program. The nomination packet will then be forwarded to the Graduate School for consideration. Applicants not accepted for CLSC faculty membership may reapply after six months. All CLSC faculty members will be re-evaluated every three years, since this is the average time period for all graduate school appointments.
