Interim Director: Christopher M. Filley, M.D.
Newly formed on May 2006, the ADCC is devoted to the study Alzheimer's
disease (AD) and related disorders of cognition. The initial goal of the center is to
consolidate the many resources in these areas within the university, and thus launch a
formal academic program that will address this increasingly prevalent and devastating
disease. The ADCC is currently a three-year project to organize the personnel and
resources of UCD, foster the development of clinical research programs in AD and
other disorders of cognition, and build a clinical base for ongoing studies. This ADCC
will establish an essential foundation for building a comprehensive program that will
also include basic research, education, and community outreach. The long-term goal of
the center is the attainment of national and international stature as a program of
excellence.
The first ADCC research plan includes three pilot projects – one each from Neurology,
Psychiatry, and Medicine – to foster interdepartmental research, the sponsoring of a
Symposium on AD and cognitive disorders, and the establishment of an administrative
core to develop a clinical data base and represent the activities of the center to the
academic and general communities.
