Profile:
Jeffrey Wallace, MD, MPH

Jeffrey Wallace, MD, MPH, graduated with honors from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1984 and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Colorado, serving as Chief Medical Resident during his final year. He completed his fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Washington, where he also received a Masters of Public Health degree in Epidemiology.

After completing his fellowship in 1992, Dr. Wallace remained at the University of Washington as a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics, where he practiced and taught clinical geriatrics while conducting research pertaining to nutritional problems in older adults. In 1994, he received an Academic Award from the National Institute on Aging, which enabled him to pursue his research interests related to weight loss and failure to thrive in the elderly.

After eleven years at the University of Washington, Dr. Wallace returned to the University of Colorado, joining the faculty in July 2000. Now an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Geriatrics at UCD, he has played an instrumental role in expanding the availability of inpatient geriatric consultation at the University of Colorado Hospital and in developing a long-term care service that follows patients in need of nursing facility care. With these services now in place, University of Colorado students and residents have new geriatrics learning opportunities available to them in these care settings.

Dr. Wallace recently received grant support for research performed in collaboration with Dr. Sally Stabler on studies of Vitamin B-12 deficiency in older adults. He also serves as Co-Principal Investigator with Dr. Richard Fisher on a project funded by the American Geriatrics Society and the John A. Hartford Foundation, which seeks to increase geriatrics expertise in surgical and related medical specialties.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wallace has been actively involved in teaching both medical students and residents, and has twice received the University of Colorado Golden Apple Teacher Award.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three young sons. Together, they enjoy biking, skiing, hiking, and visiting the zoo and natural history museum.
