Dr. Dennis W. Jahnigen first came to the University of Colorado Denver in 1979 where he developed his strong care and concern for the elderly
patient. He started comprehensive geriatric programs at the Denver VAMC and the Cleveland Clinic
Ohio before establishing the Center on Aging at UCD. Dr. Jahnigen also encouraged and
supported ongoing research in the field of geriatrics. He devoted countless hours providing
geriatric education to students, residents, fellows and community physicians. Dennis became
a national leader in this field by founding the first Student Chapter of the American
Geriatrics Society. He was the first Chairman of the Board and CEO for the United States
Armed Forces Retirement Homes and served in various positions including president of the American
Geriatrics Society
Because of Dr. Jahnigen's deep commitment to geriatric care, education, and research
throughout his professional life, this Memorial Fund is dedicated to continuing that vision.
