The Colorado Health Outcomes Program (COHO) at the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus is expanding its Qualitative Research Core and invites applications for a tenure-track position as part of an effort to expand Qualitative Research throughout the School of Medicine, other schools and departments within the University of Colorado Denver, and among new and existing collaborating community partners.  

The rank of appointment, within the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, will commensurate with qualifications and experience. We seek candidates with health-related research experience and expertise in qualitative research methods. Specific areas of interest include ethnography, observational and interview (i.e. in-depth and focus group) methods as well as qualitative research design, data collection, analysis and interpretation. This position requires a candidate with a rigorous program of independent research. We are seeking experienced individuals with a minimum of 25% in existing extramural funding. The position will also involve consulting with and mentoring other faculty on qualitative research methods, grant application and publications.  

COHO is a multi-disciplinary program whose mission is to conduct and evaluate interventions to improve population health and the overall quality of health care. COHO plays an important educational role within the Anschutz Medical Campus community and in partnership with the Clinical Faculty Scholars Program and the Primary Care Research Fellowship to provide mentorship and ad hoc assistance to students, junior faculty and research faculty. The Biostatistics and Qualitative Methods Cores are central to COHOs research and educational mission.

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct the Qualitative Methods Core within COHO. The purpose of the Core is to provide mentorship and training for faculty, trainees and research assistants on qualitative research methods and to work collaboratively with faculty and research staff to support grant development and publication activities
  • Direct an independent research program and participate as a co-investigator on other research studies
  • Serve on COHO and university committees as a research faculty representative
  • Participate in and advise the Qualitative Methods Research Forum and ATLAS.ti User Group, sponsored by COHO to develop a Community of Practice dedicated to building qualitative research knowledge and skills through shared expertise across the University of Colorado Denver campuses and with community research partners

Senior Professional Research Assistant - Data Analyst

NATURE OF WORK

The Colorado Health Outcomes Program (COHO) has an opening for a full-time Senior Professional Research Assistant (SrPRA) to work as a data analyst with various research studies associated with COHO in the Data Analysis Core. The position will be funded by various existing sponsored projects and provides statistical data analysis for project investigators in COHO and collaborating departments of the university.   More detail on our research programs can be found on our website, http://www.uchsc.edu/coho/.

The successful candidate will provide assistance with study and instrument design, data coordination, cleaning and analysis and manuscript preparation on a variety of health outcomes-related projects using primary and secondary datasets.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The SrPRA reports to the COHO Analytic Coordinator with close interactions with the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program NSQIP Director and staff

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific tasks that the SrPRA Data Analyst is responsible for include:

  1. Writing statistical programs in SAS to analyze data from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) in support of research grants using the NSQIP database.
  2.  Consulting with physician investigators on the design of research projects using the NSQIP database
  3. Supporting the writing of manuscripts from the research projects using the NSQIP database
  4. Managing the data files that are derived from the NSQIP database for support of the NSQIP research projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Masters degree in statistics, biostatistics, biometrics or related field and at least two years of SAS programming experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with MS Access and data management.

SALARY RANGE

The salary will be commensurate with experience.  This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.

Professional Research Assistant

Nature of Work:

The Colorado Health Outcomes Program (COHO) has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA) to provide research support to project investigators within the Childrens Outcomes Research program (COR). The successful candidate will spend at least 50% time at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), where the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) is housed. Additional time (30-40%) will be spent traveling to recruit and train practices, with remaining time spent at the COR offices on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This person will predominately be responsible for training and recruiting practices on how to use CIIS throughout several counties in Colorado, as part of a large federally-sponsored research project. There may be multiple positions available.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific tasks that the PRA is responsible for include, but are not limited to:

  • Become proficient with all aspects of the CIIS web-based database
    •  Attend trainings offered by CIIS to obtain necessary knowledge
    •  Attend weekly CIIS staff meetings
    •  Work closely with CIIS staff members at CDPHE
    •  Become familiar with vaccine schedules for children 19-35 months old
  • Communicate regularly regarding progress of recruitment and training with the research team at the University
  • Identify and recruit Colorado immunization providers eligible for participation in CIIS
  • Train a wide variety of providers with varying technical abilities
  • Integrate CIIS into clinical practices by evaluating workflow processes and promoting proper immunization training, delivery and best practice activities
  • Train staff to utilize CIIS as an effective immunization tool, perform data quality assessments, retrain staff as necessary, and provide technical assistance to users to ensure complete and accurate patient records
  • Work with electronic medical record (EMR) vendors, billing vendors and technical staff to obtain accurate transfer of immunization data to CIIS
  • Assist with training practices how to conduct provider-based recall using CIIS
  • Assist local health departments with geographic-based immunization recall
  • Develop, maintain and utilize various Access databases for tracking purposes, reporting functions and project analyses
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement CIIS protocols and procedures
  • Ability to meet project deadlines and protocols
  • Be willing to travel in Colorado (mostly day trips, overnight trips as needed)
  • Comply with all HIPAA and COMIRB requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Bachelors degree in health-related field with 3-4 years experience in public health
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Excel and Access
  • Must be team-oriented, flexible, and self-motivated
  • Must possess ability to work independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in public health or related field Immunization-related research experience
  • Knowledge of childhood immunization schedules a plus
  • Past employment in a university environment
  • Experience working with private practices a plus
  • Experience working with a state immunization registry
