Methods & Applications in Health Outcomes Seminar

Nighthorse Campbell Indian Center

The M & A Seminar Series began in 2001 as a way to provide insightful discussions of methodological issues in health outcomes research, with examples of the application of these methods to specific research problems. These seminars are held from 4-5 pm on the last Tuesday of each month, September through June, in the Nighthorse Campbell Native Health Building, Room 305, on the Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC). Presenters give a 20-25 minute didactic presentation of a specific methodological issue relevant to an outcomes research project and then describe the application of that methodological issue to the project. Time (10-20 minutes) is allocated at the end of the presentation for audience discussion. For the 2007-08 academic sessions, the COHO and the VA Colorado Research to Improve Care Coordination (VA-CRICC) program will cosponsor the series. Please email Tara.Janosz@uchsc.edu for more information or to be added to the distribution list.

Research and Statistics Brown Bag

Brown Bag

The COHO Research and Statistics Brown Bag Discussion Series is held the fourth Wednesday of each month throughout the year and is open to the UCD community. These sessions are designed for analysts and investigators to meet and discuss methodological issues in study design and analysis. Participants are urged to bring data from current projects for the group to use in discussion of different statistical techniques, publication, and applications of research. Note: due to the nature of series there are often last minute additions to the schedule; please contact us directly if you would like to be added to the distribution list or if you would like to present.

Past topics include: GEE & conditional logistic regression, Missing QOL data in longitudinal study, Calculating sample sizes for nested case control studies, Moderation and mediation in longitudinal studies, Anesthesia variables predictive of surgical outcomes?

Cultural Proficiency Learning Group (CPLG)
The COHO Cultural Proficiency Learning Group Brown Bag Series is held the several times throughout the year. These sessions are designed in line with our vision and mission:

Mission: The Cultural Proficiency Learning Group is committed to building professional and personal cultural proficiency for its members, University of Colorado, and its partners.  Through outreach, education and advocacy, and by focusing on cultural competence in research, we will contribute to the elimination of health disparities in Colorado.

Vision: An environment for University of Colorado and its partners that is culturally diverse and proficient, and is open and respectful of all persons and their contributions at all levels of operation.  Striving toward cultural proficiency will make fundamental contributions to reductions in health disparities in Colorado.

Our learning group topics are selected by brownbag participants and our format alternates between a more didactic learning experience that includes an invited speaker one month, with a more a introspective guided session on alternate months. Recent topics in our series have included: Community based participatory research, White privilege, socio-economic status and class, health literacy and disabilities.  We have also viewed films including “The Color of Fear,” “Worlds Apart,” and “The Spirit is Able.”

For more information about the CPLG please contact Stephanie Phibbs: 303-724-1080 or Stephanie.phibbs@uchsc.edu
