University of Colorado DenverThe Center for Human Nutrition (CHN) was established in 1988 within the University of Colorado Denver in recognition of the importance of proper nutrition to human health and of a need for nutrition education in major medical centers. The CHN, an interdepartmental center within the CU School of Medicine, has developed a comprehensive range of nutrition programs, encompassing research, training, education, nutrition services, community outreach, and participation in national nutrition policy. James O. Hill, Ph.D.
Dr. Hill is a professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Medicine and the Director of the Center for Human Nutrition and the Clinical Nutrition Research Unit at the University of Colorado Denver. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of New Hampshire in Physiological Psychology. He has postdoctoral experience in Endocrinology and Metabolism from Emory University. Dr. Hills research interests are understanding how energy and macronutrient balance are achieved, how they are influenced by diet and physical activity, and the consequences for the prevention and treatment of obesity. He is active in several professional organizations including the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, the American Institute of Nutrition and the North American Association for the study of Obesity. He is an adhoc reviewer for NIH and serves on the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Physiology, Obesity Research, International Journal of Obesity, and Journal of Nutrition. He serves as a member of the National Institutes of Health Task Force on the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity. He is co-founder of the National Weight Control Registry, which track people who have been successful in weight reduction. He has over 95 peer-reviewed publications in the area of obesity. Holly Wyatt M.D.
Dr. Wyatt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes at The University of Colorado Denver. She is currently a physician and clinical researcher at The Center for Human Nutrition in Denver, Colorado She received her B.A. degree from the University of Texas and M.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She completed both an Internal Medicine Residency and an Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship at The University of Colorado Denver. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Wyatt's research interests are in understanding energy and macronutrient balance in obese individuals and individuals who are successfully maintaining a weight loss (reduced-obese). She has experience in the scientific techniques necessary to measure energy expenditure in human subjects. She has received both a National Service Research Award and a Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award from the NIH to study energy metabolism and metabolic factors associated with weight loss in reduced-obese subjects. Dr. Wyatt is the Medical Director for the Centers for Obesity Research and Education (C.O.R.E.), a national organization that provides educational workshops for health care providers on obesity assessment and management in their practice. She is also part of the medical team directing the long-term weight management program at The University of Colorado Denver Weight Management Center called Weight Choice. |
