Minority Health Professions Opportunity Day (October
2, 2004)
The Minority Health Professions Opportunity Day was a great success.
Students from all over the state gathered at the CU Health
Sciences Center to explore the health careers. The day
started with a light breakfast followed by a welcome form Yessica
Holguin, the Office of Diversity K-12 Recruitment Coordinator.
Then, current HSC students talked to the high school students
about their journey and what they had to do to be accepted into
their program.
Right after the student panel, the students went to their assigned
workshops.
Students were exposed to a variety of activities that offered an
overview of health professions. Students were thrilled with
the opportunities they had to further explore their area of
interest. The day
ended with a closing by Dominic Martinez, Assistant Director.
Pre-Matriculation Program (July 19 -
August 5)
The Pre-Matriculation Program was a great success. Nine
students participated in a three-week preparation program.
Students were exposed to a variety of activities that helped them
prepare for their journey in medical school . The program
ended with a recognition/appreciation luncheon.
Chris Davis and James Hanson, along with the planning committee,
did an amazing job planning and implementing the program.
