Fields: Aging.  Applicants in degree programs must be undergraduate or graduate or pre-doctoral students at colleges/university in the US.  Individuals most often chosen utilize modern and innovative approaches and technologies.  Letter of references from research advisor and two instructors are required, as well as official transcripts.  Number of awards varies.  $3.00 processing fee for pre-application; no fee for submission of full application.  All interested students researchers should write directly to AFAR Headquarters to receive application forms.Specify year in school and proposed research.

2004 UNCF-Merck Science Research Scholarships and Fellowships for African American students - Scholarships, internships, and fellowships for up to $25,000-$70,000 per year for 15 undergraduate, 12 graduate, and 10 postdoctoral students.  The UNCF-Merck Science Initiative may also provide $10,000 - $15,000 grants to science departments of fellowship recipients' home institutions.  Application deadline December 15, 2003.  Go to www.uncf.org/merck for more information.
