Undergraduate Pre-Health Program (UPP)
Pre-Health Experiences for 1st Generation and
Traditionally Under-Represented Students:
Summer 2006 - Summer 2007

Purpose of UPP:
To increase the number of 1st
generation undergraduate students from diverse and traditionally
under-represented groups to all the different health care
careers and the opportunities offered at the University of
Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center.
Program:
Students will enroll in a 13 month
Undergraduate Pre-Health Program. Topics will include Health
Disparities in underserved communities and careers and
opportunities in Health Care. The courses will be taught by
distinguished UCDHSC faculty and will consist of lectures,
demonstrations and laboratory research.
The program will start in May with an
Orientation. Then the participants will participate in an 8
week summer program. After the summer program the participants
will be required to attend Saturday Academies once a month (From
September 2006-May 2007).
The participants return for a 4 week summer
program in June 2007.
Eligibility:
Students are selected on the basis of
academic, achievement, interest in the Healthcare professions
and inclusion in an underrepresented group or category (first
generation college attendee, low income/financial need, or
ethnic identity as African American, Hispanic, American Indian
or Asian American. Applicants must have completed at least one
year of college by June 2006 (freshman or sophomore status).
Minimum GPA of 3.0 overall
Two (2) letters of recommendation (at least
one from science faculty)
A personal statement on your career goals
and explain how this program will contribute to those goals.
Current transcript (copy acceptable)
Stipend/Living Allowance:
Students will receive a $2000.00 stipend
per month during the summer month of June/ July of 2006 and June
of 2007. Apartment within walking distance to the Health
Sciences Center campus can be rented at reasonable rates.
