Withdrawing

Withdrawing and Financial Aid
Update April 3, 2001

The refund/repayment policy affects students withdrawing from school who are financial aid recipients. The student must begin the withdrawal process by contacting the Office of Student Admissions and Records in the Medical School, Room 1801.

The student will need to obtain approval for withdrawal from the appropriate academic dean or dean's designate. A withdrawal form must be completed; the form requires signatures from the Bursar's Office, Student Financial Aid, University Bookstore, Denison Library, Traffic and Security Office and Unit Teaching Laboratories.

Required Refund Policy

The institution is require to complete Federal Calculations which determine the amount of institutional charges (tuition and fees) the school is allowed to keep and the amount of refund (aid greater than institutional charges) the student will be allowed to keep.

The Federal Calculation considers the number of days a student attended over the number of days the student would have attended, if he/she had completed the term. The percentage is then determined and used to evaluate the institutional charges and refund the school and student will be allowed to retain.

Allocation of funds to be returned

Once the amount of aid to be returned has been determined it is returned by reducing aid received during the term the student withdrew. Work-Study will be reduced to the amount earned during the current and previous terms if applicable. Funds will be allocated to the aid programs in the following order:

Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans
Subsidized Federal Direct Loans
Federal Direct PLUS Loans
Federal Perkins Loans
Federal Pell Grants
Colorado Grants and Scholarships
Institutional Loans
Institutional Scholarships

Withdrawal Date

The official withdrawal date will be determined by the school and the student. Either the school or the student must notify the Financial Aid Office of the official date of withdrawal.
