Faculty - Veterans Affairs Medical Center
The Denver Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a 128 bed tertiary care referral facility. It provides a full range of state-of-the-art patient care services and serves as an important educational and research center for the Division of Gastroenterology. The GI Division currently consists of 4 faculty members, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 1 Physician Assistant with active recruitments for 1-2 additional faculty. In addition to an active inpatient consultative service the GI Division Staffs a busy Endoscopy unit, a GI motility laboratory, 1 general GI clinic and 2 Hepatology clinics. The faculty have active research programs in colorectal cancer prevention, gastroesophageal reflux, hepatitis treatment and alcohol related injury to the liver.
Construction: There is strong support for the relocation of the Denver facility to the Fitzsimons Campus. Design funding was released in June, 2004 and pre-design planning is completed. Recommendations for an architectural/engineering firm for the design have been forwarded to Central Office for approval. In the interim the VISN19/ECHCS are investigating possible real estate sites.
