Marian Rewers, MD, PhD

Etiology, epidemiology and clinical outcomes of type 1 diabetes and cardiovascular complications of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes


Marian Rewers, MD, PhD is the Clinical Director of the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. He is also Professor of Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Rewers is a pediatric diabetologist and an internationally-recognized physician scientist. He received his medical and pediatric training at the University of Poznan, Poland and the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He has made important contributions to our understanding of the etiology of type 1 diabetes and its macrovascular complications by creating large prospective cohort studies: DAISY, CACTI and an international consortium "The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young" (TEDDY). For this work, he was recognized by the ADA with the 2005 Kelly West Award. Since 2000, he has expanded the Clinical Division of the Barbara Davis Center to one of the premier programs in diabetes in the world now caring for more than 3,000 children and 2,000 adults with type 1 diabetes.
