Health Disparities

Thomas Denberg, MD, PhD, uses SEER-Medicare data and nationally-representative surveys of practicing physicians to study patterns of care for prostate cancer, including disparities by race/ethnicity and by socioeconomic and marital status.

John Steiner, MD, MPH, is a principal investigator on a National Heart Blood and Lung Institute (NHLBI)-funded study to develop a partnership between Denver Health (DH), a minority-serving healthcare system, and the University of Colorado Denver (UCD), to improve cardiovascular disease outcomes in racial and ethnic minorities and, specifically, to improve the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in Hispanics.

Stacy Fischer, MD, is working with socially disadvantaged patients in the Denver Health Medical Center under the auspices of a Brookdale National Fellowship award. She is studying ethnic disparities in end-of-life care and the relationship between patient ethnicity and preferences for site of death.

Ingrid Binwanger, MD, MSPH
Dr. Binswanger conducts research on health and the criminal justice system, the medical complications of drug use and vulnerable populations. Her goal is to find effective ways to improve the health of individuals and communities heavily impacted by drug use and incarceration.
