Request for Increase in Resident Complement Form

Programs interested in increasing the resident complement must complete the Request to Increase Resident Complement and submit it to the Office of GME for presentation to the GMEC. Instructions for completing the form are at the end of this page.

Guidelines for Increasing the Resident Complement for both ACGME and non-ACGME accredited programs

  • Temporary and Permanent increases in trainee positions must be approved by the GMEC
  • Programs must have sound educational rationale
  • The additional positon(s) must not take away from the experience/ cases of other residents
  • The additional positon(s) must not affect funding for any other program
  • Any program accredited by the ACGME must also request approval of the RRC to increase
    the resident complement after obtaining approval from the local GMEC.


Process for Obtaining Approval by the GMEC

    1. Program Director contacts Barry Kamin to inform of intent to increase the total number of positions
    2. Program Director completes and submits the Request to Increase Resident Complement.

    3. The Program Director presents the proposal for increase to the Graduate Medical Education Committee during one of its meetings.
    4. GMEC makes a decision to approve the request based on educational rationale at the meeting.
