The Denver Metropolitan Area has a population of approximately 2.5 million. Its residents are afforded all the cultural advantages of a
major metropolitan center, including a symphony orchestra, numerous resident theater groups, excellent natural history and fine arts
museums, attractive shopping malls, a botanical garden, zoo, and planetarium.
The city offers a variety of excellent restaurants, supports five major league teams, and in 1995 completed construction of the country's
largest airport. A number of nationally prominent summer music festivals are held annually in the mountain resorts west of Denver.

The climate in Denver and throughout the state is very pleasant with relatively mild, sunny winters and warm, dry summers. Denver boasts
more than 300 days of sunshine per year. The adjacent Rocky Mountains offer a spectacular array of outdoor recreational activities,
including skiing, hiking, camping, biking, fishing, and a variety of water sports. Popular vacation and sightseeing spots include Rocky
Mountain National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Steamboat Springs, Lake Dillon, Telluride, and Aspen.
The CU-Health Sciences Center is located in an attractive residential setting in east Denver. Students can find suitable inexpensive
housing within bicycling or walking distance of the campus.
