Dr. Sauaia has over ten years experience in health outcomes/health services
research. She has worked for several years in the Health Care Quality Improvement Program
for Medicare beneficiaries with the Colorado Foundation for Medical Care. She joined the
Division of Health Care Policy and Research at the University of Colorado in September
2002. Since 1999, she has been the PI of the Tepeyac Project, a statewide, federally
funded project that aims at improving breast cancer screening among Latinas. She has
become a nationally recognized expert in this area, serving in the National Hispanic/Latina
Task Force of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Medicare National Review Panel for projects
aiming at reducing disparities and as an invited speaker at the National Hispanic Medical
Association. She also has an interest in trauma related research and has been working with
the Denver Health Medical Center Trauma Center group since 1991.
