HOPS
Hospitalization of Nursing Home Residents Phone Survey
Funded by: Health Care Financing Administration
Project Period: 9/96 - 9/97
This project is to evaluate the extent to which a high hospitalization rate in
a nursing home reflects: nursing staff capability and availability; interventions
available in the nursing home; ancillary services available in the nursing home;
patient morbidity; and/or quality of nursing home care. The study will also
explore other factors that may contribute to hospitalization of nursing home
residents. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with physicians, nurse
practitioners, social workers, and discharge planners associated with nursing
homes identified as "high hospitalizers" in the 1993 HCFA data base.
