Analysis of Rehabilitation Care and Outcomes
Funded by: National Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research
Subcontract from: The Medlantic Research Institute
Project Period: 8/96 - 10/97
This project involves analysis of data collected in the Subacute Care Study and
Rehabilitation Alternative Study and preparation of three papers. These papers
include: 1. the relationship between rehabilitation service intensity and
outcome; 2. one year outcomes and costs for hip fracture patients admitted to
different rehabilitation settings; and 3. one year outcomes and costs for
stroke patients admitted to different rehabilitation settings. In the first
paper we will examine relationships between various therapy services and
functional outcomes for different types of patients in an attempt to determine
volume thresholds above which additional therapy has only limited benefit. The
two papers on one-year outcomes will focus on changes in function, utilization
outcomes, and Medicare costs incurred for different types of services. In
addition to these three papers, the National Rehabilitation Hospital Research
Center staff will also produce three papers using the Subacute Care Study data
in collaboration with our staff.
