Summary/Abstract
The Nursing Home Value-Based Purchasing Demonstration is a 3-year demonstration that gives
participating nursing homes incentives to provide high quality care and improve the level of
care they provide. The role of DHCPR in the demonstration is to refine the demonstration design,
including developing performance measures, data collection and verification tools, methods for
estimating cost savings and allocating incentive payments, and risk adjustment methods for
performance measures and cost. Additionally, DHCPR staff will support implementation of the
demonstration, including data collection from participating nursing homes, and analysis of nursing
home quality measures and cost, using Medicare Claims, Minimum Data Set Assessment data, Medicare
certification data, and nursing home staffing data.
