Who we are

 

The Division of Infectious Diseases is a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, educators, and research scientists. We work to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases through research, education and training. Our shared mission is to:

  • Provide compassionate and state-of-the-art medical care for patients with infections, including comprehensive care for persons living with HIV infection
  • Conduct cutting-edge research to advance scientific knowledge 
  • Train the next generation of physicians to become national leaders in infectious diseases clinical care, education and research 
  • Serve our communities by public and provider education, and assistance in protecting the public health.

  

Overview

 

PATIENT CARE 

Our faculty and trainees provide inpatient and outpatient consultation at University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Denver Health and Hospitals, and National Jewish Health. Areas of expertise include multidisciplinary HIV/AIDS primary care, mycobacterial diseases, transplant infectious diseases, infection control, and public health.

RESEARCH  

Research programs are found at all four campus locations, and include laboratory, translational and clinical efforts.  Specialized programs include the Colorado AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, the Mucosal and Vaccine Research Center, and study sites for the Tuberculosis Trials Consortium and Tuberculosis Epidemiological Studies Consortium.

EDUCATION 

We are home to the Mountain-Plains AIDS Education and Training Center, and the Colorado AIDS Education and Training Center. Our faculty provide regional education in infectious diseases for the healthcare communities and providers of Colorado and continuing medical education for Infectious Diseases specialists.

TRAINING 

The Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program and the Colorado HIV Research Training Program are major focuses of the Division. Faculty also participate in a wide variety of educational venues, including research training for predoctoral students and postgraduate doctoral fellows, allied health professionals, didactic teaching for the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing and clinical training of medical students, Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine residents.
