Research Interests
Dr. Tyler's clinical research involves study of virus infections of the CNS including West Nile, herpes simplex, Epstein-Barr virus, and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. He has been a lead investigator at UCD for studies sponsored by the Collaborative Antiviral Study Group (CASG) on treatment of West Nile virus infection of the nervous system and of studies sponsored by the Neurological AIDS Research Consortium (NARC) and the AIDS Clinical Trial Group (ACTG) related to neurological complications of HIV infection. His laboratory is funded by the NIH and Department of Veterans Affairs for their studies of viral pathogenesis including understanding how viruses kill cells, including the effects of viral infection on apoptotic signaling pathways, transcription factor activation, and mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascades.
