1967: Henry Claman provides the first evidence that cells originating from the thymus and bone marrow collaborate in the antibody response (T-B lymphocyte collaboration)
1967: Kimishige Ishiszaka discovers IgE
1983: Kevin Lafferty, who developed the concept of co-stimulation for lymphocyte activation, is the first director of the Barbara Davis Center of Juvenile diabetes
1978-1988: Howard Grey participates in defining how T lymphocytes recognize antigen
1987-1988: John Kappler and Pippa Marrack provide the first evidence that autoreactive lymphocytes are negatively selected and also participate in identifying and characterizing the T cell antigen receptor
1989: David Nemazee identifies receptor editing as a mechanism by which autoreactive B lymphocytes are rendered tolerant
