Summary of Research:
My research involves TRPM7, a cation channel that has been shown to be a master regulator of Mg2+ homeostasis in vertebrates. This ion channel is structurally unique in that it contains an active cytoplasmic C-terminal Ser/Thr kinase domain, which possibly coordinates the intracellular signaling pathways with the Mg2+ status of the cell. Using the avian DT40 B-cell system, I am investigating the effects of TRPM7 deficiency and Mg2+ homeostasis deregulation on B-cell receptor signaling.
