Once the summer hiatus fades into routine seminars and classes brought by the fall, the annual student retreat is held.  Both new and veteran immunology students make the scenic trip into the Rocky Mountains for a 3-day retreat of great science, food and entertainment.  The retreat is held at Denver University’s High Altitude Laboratory Cabin at the base of the 14,000 ft.  Mt. Evans.  The retreat facilitates the strengthening our student community both scientifically and socially.  This is an opportunity for students to explore colleagues’ research in a comfortable, laid back environment.  In recent years, the immunology graduate students have also extended an invitation to non-immunology UCD graduate students.  These students’ attendance facilitated the integration of our immunology interests with other areas of biomedical research including Cancer, Micro- and Molecular Biology.

In true Colorado fashion, the retreat weekend usually sees both warm and snowy weather – layers are essential.  However, this weather and environment lends itself well to hiking, biking, swimming, snowshoeing, and always gathering around a campfire.

Friendships, knowledge and a strong support system are gained at the student retreat. An elected student organizes the retreat and is supported by the University’s Graduate Program and National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
