TEDDY Clinic Staff

 

Michelle Hoffman

Michelle Hoffman has been a clinical coordinator with the DAISY study since its beginning in 1993, and also serves the same role in the new TEDDY study. She attended Hastings College in Nebraska where she received her degree in nursing with a minor in literature. Michelle began her career as a nurse with The Children's Hospital in Denver working in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for three years. She then moved into the Psychiatric Crisis Unit for five years, in Radiology for one year and finally came to DAISY in 1993. In the TEDDY study she informs the families of their testing results as well as, providing important diabetes education. Michelle is married and has two sons and a daughter who all love outdoor activities.

Tricia Gesualdo

Tricia Gesualdo is the assistant clinical coordinator for TEDDY. She interacts with TEDDY participants frequently by informing families of genetic test results, recruiting families into TEDDY follow-up, and collecting information and specimens at TEDDY clinic visits, as well as DAISY clinic visits. Tricia's role in TEDDY also includes serving on several committees, working with the other TEDDY sites to make sure that all sites and staff are consistently following the TEDDY protocols, including our own local clinic staff. Her educational background includes an AD in Nursing, BA in Anthropology, and MS in Public Health. Tricia is originally from Atlanta but has lived in Denver since 2003. She enjoys running, reading, cooking, and traveling, and she and her husband, Chris, just welcomed a new baby daughter.

Kimberly Bautista

Kimberly Bautista is a research assistant and data collector for the TEDDY and DAISY studies. She has been with the studies since 2002. Kim grew up in Denver and attended the University of Colorado Denver where she completed her degree in Biology. You will meet Kim at clinic visits for both TEDDY and DAISY. She interviews families and draws the participants' blood. She also conducts interviews over the phone and assists with data entry. When she is not at work Kim enjoys spending time with her husband and two adorable cocker spaniels, Hannah and Lola.

Betsy Burke

Betsy Burke has worked for the DAISY study since 2001, left for a year to work as a nurse and is now working for both DAISY and TEDDY as data collector. She interviews families, draws the participant's blood, does data entry and recruits new families to paricipate in genetic screeing at hospitals. She graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelors degree in environmental health and attended nursing school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences receiving her Bachelor of Science for nursing in 2004. Betsy enjoys spending time with her husband, reading, swimming, biking and crocheting.

Nicole Frank

Nicole Frank works for the TEDDY and DAISY studies as a bilingual clinical data collector. She has a BA in Anthropology from CU-Boulder. She completed her MA in Medical Anthropology at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she also worked as a research assistant for a project concerning assisted reproduction. She has also participated in a number of short-term medical projects in Latin America and other parts of the world. Outside of work, Nicole enjoys traveling, scuba diving, skiing, hiking, running, reading, playing piano, and spending time with her husband.

Katina Widmer

Katina Widmer has worked for the TEDDY study as a bilingual clinical data collector since April of 2007. She has a BA in English, Spanish, and Sociology from Ohio Wesleyan University. She recently moved to Denver from Las Cruces, NM after completing an MA in Sociology from New Mexico State University with a focus on immigration issues. She enjoys running, hiking, playing ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, volleyball, reading, traveling, and being an Ohio sports fan.

Terra Bookout

Terra Bookout is a research assistant and data collector for the TEDDY and DAISY studies. She is a newer member of our team, joining us in May 2008. Terra is a Colorado native and graduated from Colorado State University where she completed her degree in Health and Exercise Science. You will see Terra at clinic visits for both TEDDY and DAISY. She interviews families, explains genetic screening results, and also assists with data entry. When she is not working Terra enjoys running, camping, boating and spending time with her friends & family.

Leah Bomesberger

Leah Bomesberger is a research assistant and data collector for the TEDDY and DAISY Studies. She graduated from Colorado Christian University with a BS degree, majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Leah has traveled to Nepal, working and fundraising for a Leprosy clinic based out of Kathmandu. When not working or traveling, Leah enjoys camping, climbing, snowboarding and hiking.
