Marian Rewers, MD, PhD

Dr. Marian Rewers was born in Poznan, Poland. He earned his medical degree, (MD/PhD) at the University of Poznan and his MPH at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been a faculty member at the University of Colorado and a physician at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes since 1990. In 2001 Dr. Rewers became the Clinical Director of the Barbara Davis Center. He is also the principal investigator on several diabetes research studies, including DAISY and TEDDY. He is a highly respected and internationally known investigator in the field of diabetes research. Dr. Rewers and his wife, Arleta, an emergency medicine physician at The Children’s Hospital, have two children, Amanda and Mark.

Jill Norris, PhD

Dr. Jill Norris is an Associate Professor with the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics and Head of Epidemiology and Community Health. She has been with the University of Colorado Denver since 1990. Dr. Norris studied epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, where she was awarded her Master of Public Health in 1988 and her Ph.D. in 1990. Dr. Norris' primary research interests are epidemiology of Type 1 Diabetes with a particular focus on the impact of nutrition on the immune system; the genetic epidemiology of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes; and the epidemiology of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Dr. Norris and her husband, Dr. Michael Holers, Head of Rheumatology at UCD, have two children, Emma and Nate.

Judy Baxter, MA

Judith Baxter, MA is trained as a sociologist, specializing in demography and community studies. She joined Preventive Medicine in 1983 and has worked as the project manager for the San Luis Valley Diabetes Study and as an instructor in the Masters of Science in Public Health program. In 1998 she helped start the Colorado Health Outcomes Program, and left in 2004 to become the project manager for TEDDY Colorado. She is also the Co-director of the Rocky Mountain Evidence-Based Health Care Workshop, which trains clinicians how to use research findings in real practice. Judy's research interests include understanding how social, psychological and cultural factors influence the risk of diabetes and heart disease, and contribute to successful aging. She has been watching the great work on DAISY for 10 years and is really excited about joining this study team with the addition of TEDDY.
