TEDDY Screening Staff

 

Jessie Robinson

Jessie Robinson is the Screening Coordinator for TEDDY. She oversees screening at our numerous clinics and 10 Denver area hospitals. She is also involved in the retention of participants in the TEDDY Study. As a military "brat" she has lived all over the US and Germany. She received her BS in biology and chemistry and her MS in molecular biology from Northern Arizona University. She has spent six years in various research fields, and is excited to contribute to type 1 diabetes research. Outside of work Jessie enjoys spending time with her husband Zach and two children Teagan and Joehl. She also enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, and good beer. Her favorite hobby is fixing up her "new" 80 year old house.

Kelly Jones

Kelly Jones works within the clinical division of the Barbara Davis Center, recruiting newborns for TEDDY screening. She identifies patients who are eligible for TEDDY screening, educates them about TEDDY, and obtains informed consent and blood, either with a cord blood kit or by completing a heel stick. She has been with TEDDY since May 2006, and is very excited to be contributing to diabetes research! Kelly is originally from Fort Collins, where she also received her bachelors degree in biological science from Colorado State University. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys jogging, swing dancing, and rock climbing.

 

Leah Emerick

Leah joined the TEDDY screening team in July 2007. She works as an Assistant Screening Coordinator, managing screening operations at Swedish Medical Center, Parker Adventist Hospital, Sky Ridge Medical Center and Littleton Adventist Hospital. In addition to TEDDY, Leah also works per diem as a Gynecological Teaching Associate for the Center for Advancing Professional Excellence (CAPE) at the University of Colorado, Denver. Leah is native of upstate New York. She received her BS in Human Development and Family Sciences from The University of Texas, Austin. Leah loves super-G, rock climbing, slalom skiing, camping, mountain biking, and Thrillseekers. She also enjoys listening to NPR, drinking coffee, completing the NY Times crossword puzzles and gardening with succulents.

Laura Entin

Laura Entin is the Assistant Screening Coordinator for the TEDDY Study. She has been with TEDDY since August 2006. Laura acts as the liaison between the TEDDY recruiters and the hospitals Exempla Saint Joseph’s, Rose Medical Center, and Exempla Lutheran Medical Center. She is a Colorado native and received her BA in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Currently, she is working towards becoming a Physician Assistant. In her spare moments Laura enjoys sunshine, her labradoodle Jaxon, rock climbing, skiing, painting, and dreaming of moving back to New Zealand.

 

Cindy Machado

Cindy Machado is an Assistant Screening Coordinator for the TEDDY Study. She was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She earned her medical degree at the University of Zulia. She has been with TEDDY since May of 2007. She oversees the screening process in Avista Adventist Hospital, Good Samaritan Medical Center and North Suburban Medical Center. She trains new screening staff, is in charge of scheduling the recruiters in our participating hospitals, sends letters to inform parents of their child genetic results and occasionally recruits Spanish-speaking and English-speaking subjects. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband Michael, enjoys the nature, loves watching movies and TV shows and learning about anything and everything on the Internet.

Ramak Razavi

Ramak Razavi is a TEDDY recruiter and does the data entry for the study. She is married and has two little girls. She was born in Tehran-Iran and has graduated from Tehran medical Sciences University with a Master degree in Clinical Toxicology. Ramak enjoys learning about the antiques and arts, cooking and reading.

 

Hospital Recruiters

We also have nearly 20 recruiters who recruit mothers of newborn babies for the screening phase of TEDDY at our seven Denver area hospitals.
