Children's Diabetes Foundation
The Guild, the auxiliary support group of the Children's Diabetes Foundation at Denver, was founded to aid clinical and research programs at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes in Denver, Colorado. Offering a broad range of support, The Guild is comprised of energetic, dedicated volunteers who engage in diverse activities solely to enrich the lives of children with diabetes. Since its inception in 1979, The Guild has contributed over a half million dollars to the Barbara Davis Center to help find a cure for this devastating disease.
The CDF allows the Center to fulfill Mrs. Davis’s pledge that no child with diabetes in Colorado should have to “pay” for the disease. No child is turned away from clinical care at the BDC because of inability to pay or lack of insurance. In addition members of the Guild of the CDF provide volunteer staffing for the Clinic, funding for purchasing diabetes supplies for families in need through the Helping Hand program at the BDC and scholarships to children who could not otherwise afford to attend the American Diabetes Association Children's Diabetes Camp in the summer. Guild members arrange social events such as an annual Day at the Rockies and sugar-free Halloween parties and facilitate support groups for patients and families. The Guild also contributes to patient and family education with its provision of patient care educational notebooks and school health plan information packets.
