The University of Colorado Denver (UCD) School of Medicine is located at the decommissioned Fitzsimons Army
Medical Center in Aurora, a suburb in the eastern part of greater Denver. Fitzsimons was donated by the
Federal government in 1995 to the University of Colorado as a 217-acre site adjacent to a 160-acre Colorado
Bioscience Park that accommodates biotechnology and pharmaceutical organizations to create one of the
largest University-Industry affiliated "parks" in the nation. The Fitzsimons campus contains all new
state-of-the-art research and medical facilities that places UCD at the forefront of 21st century
training and biomedical research centers in the world. The new campus research facilities opened in 2004 and was recently renamed Anschutz Medical Campus.
