The Graduate School mandates a preliminary evaluation of a student's fitness to proceed to the Comprehensive Exam. The Preliminary Exam has two parts:

• Part I: is a general written exam that all UCDHSC graduate students take at the end of their first year (the test is given in mid-June).

• Part II: is a written exam covering specifically neuroscience material.
