Why you chose the UC Denver Neuroscience Program: The supportive faculty and graduate students; a good fit with my research interests, while at the same time affording the opportunity to explore diverse areas of research before committing to a thesis project.

Where you attended undergrad and what your major/minor(s) were: University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Zoology and Botany and subsequently took courses in audiology, speech pathology and linguistics

What you did (if anything) between undergrad and grad school: a master's in soil nutrient cycling in a nature reserve in South Africa; various stints in labs as a research assistant; taught biological sciences courses at high school and undergraduate level in South Africa and at a community college here in Colorado; taught ESL for a few years to adult newcomers to Canada while raising my young children.

Other school affiliated activities/clubs you are involved in: None as yet

What you like to do outside of school: Hiking, skiing, canoeing when we get the chance (the Colorado River in Utah substitutes well for the pristine lakes of Northern Ontario), reading, spending time with my family.
